Government called upon to extend their Acknowledged List of Risk Factors for breast cancer to include Environmental Pollutants

The Government’s forthcoming Cancer Reform Strategy, an update to the ten-year NHS Cancer Plan launched in 2000, is due for publication in late 2007. Online submissions were invited earlier this year for inclusion in the new Reform Strategy and Breast Cancer UK responded with a submission based on their No More Breast Cancer (NMBC) campaign message.

The NMBC campaign argues that chemical toxins and environmental pollutants are linked to the ever increasing incidence of breast cancer in the UK and calls upon Government to acknowledge this problem by expanding the current list of acknowledged risk factors for breast cancer to include chemical toxins and environmental pollutants.

Please contact your MP and bring Breast Cancer UK’s submission to the Cancer Reform Strategy, and the NMBC campaign message, to their attention and ask them to support the call for environmental pollutants to be included in the list of recognised risk factors. There is a proposed form letter here which you can use, please include your own name, address and your MP’s name.  You can find out who your MP is by going to www.upmystreet.com/commons/l/

Please send a copy of your letter to the Government’s ‘Cancer Tzar’:
