The Association for Research and Treatments Against Cancer (ARTAC) is an independent, non-profit organisation of international scientific specialists, based in Paris.
ARTAC launched the Paris Appeal in May 2004. The Paris Appeal is an international declaration on diseases caused by chemical pollution, and an appeal to national and international decision-makers and organisations, the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) to:
- apply the precautionary principle in regulating the production and use
of chemicals which constitute a threat to health
- ban all products deemed dangerous to humans by scientific authorities
- adopt programmes to achieve the elimination/regulation of polluting
substances in accordance with the original EU chemicals legislation of 2001, known by the acronym REACH.
The Paris Appeal has been circulated in Europe and the United States and has been signed and supported by international scientists, Nobel prize winners, non-government organisations, and citizens as well as key figures in science, medicine and politics and organisations such as the.Standing Committee of European Doctors, which represents the 2 million physicians of
the medical governing bodies in the 25 member states of the European Union.
